Gavin Parker
Growing up as the son of a CPA, Gavin saw firsthand the grueling hours and stress of the profession and vowed to pursue a different path. After earning degrees in psychology and religious studies, he planned on becoming a therapist, but the reality of impending fatherhood made him reconsider. Instead, he joined his father’s tax and accounting firm, launching a wealth management division to better serve clients after seeing how poorly they were treated by outside advisors.
Despite the lack of experience, he threw himself into the deep end, learning both financial advising and tax preparation on the job. Initially, struggling with self-doubt and the feeling of being an impostor, his passion for helping others and determination to succeed drove him forward. Over time, he pushed through the challenging early years, what Seth Godin calls “The Dip,” and began to gain traction.
However, as he gained experience, he realized that conventional financial advice often led to significant tax burdens for clients, counteracting the wealth-building strategies he was helping them implement. This realization led him on a quest to find a better way. The breakthrough came unexpectedly during a conference when he blurted out, “Shut up and pay your tax!” to a fellow entrepreneur. This offhand comment solidified his understanding that true wealth is built with after-tax dollars, and it became the cornerstone of his approach to helping successful entrepreneurs achieve tax freedom.
